![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just reading the testimonies of those who said how profondingly this song has impacted you, I think it a great thing. I was very surprised to learn it was from a Kids TV Programme. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.Heard these words and thought I would Google it to see what the origins of the song "I love you and you Love me". The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. It is highly possible that the singer may have become suicidal since they are clearly, deeply in love with the listener and the listener is barely, if at all, returning any of the love, breaking up the 'great big family'. This last line gives a negative twist on the entire song because it doesn't continue, letting us know how the singer feels about the lack of love returned from the listener. ![]() I theorize that the listener may not return the hug, smile, or kiss because the singer finishes with the line, "Won't you say you love me too?" This is furthered by, "a hug from me to you", which is where they also greet each other with a hug, or at least, the singer greets the listener with a hug. "With a smile and a kiss" may sound like it's talking about relationships and how the people in them make each other smile and share kisses, but instead, this is a family that is comfortable with each other and cares about each other deeply, therefore smiling and kissing each other in greeting. This line states, "We're a great big happy family!" which pulls the listener into a feeling of happiness and companionship as if they were family with the singer. Without waiting for the listener to respond, the singer moves on to the next line, assuming that the listner is returning the affection. The next line, "You love me" shows that he wants the listener to return that friendliness and care. When the singer says "I love you", he is trying to convey his feelings of care and friendliness to the person that is listening to the song. ![]()
